Care with a Commitment to Excellence

5 Signs It's Time to Find a New Doctor

The relationship between you and your doctor sets the tone for every health decision you make. Recognizing when that relationship no longer serves you is an act of self-advocacy.

1. You Leave Appointments With More Questions Than Answers

A good provider takes time to explain your diagnosis, your treatment options, and your next steps in language you understand. Walking out confused after every visit is a sign the communication isn't working.

2. Your Concerns Get Dismissed

Symptoms you report deserve to be taken seriously and investigated. A pattern of being told your pain isn't real, your symptoms are "just stress," or your concerns are exaggerated is a signal to seek care elsewhere.

3. You Feel Rushed Through Every Visit

Appointments that feel like the provider is racing to the next patient before your questions are answered leave little room for real care. Your health deserves a provider who makes space for your full story.

4. Cultural Competency Is Missing

A provider who understands your background, respects your values, and communicates in a way that honors your lived experience builds trust that improves your care. A provider who consistently misses this mark makes it harder to receive the care you need.

5. Your Health Outcomes Aren't Improving

Ongoing management of a condition should include regular reassessment of your treatment plan. A provider who keeps the same approach despite your numbers, symptoms, or quality of life staying the same or getting worse may not be the right fit for where you are now.

Finding the Right Fit

Switching providers is a normal part of managing your health. Start by asking your insurance for a list of in-network options, reading reviews from other patients, and scheduling a first visit as an opportunity to assess fit before committing. Bring your medical records and a list of questions to that first appointment.

Your care team should make you feel heard, respected, and informed. Don't ever feel bad for advocating for your life!
